Key executives

John Douglass Verdant TechnologiesJohn Douglass, founder and chief executive officer.
John’s career spans more than two decades. His experience in hardware and embedded software development coupled with project management and entrepreneurial skills, have led to some pioneering work in the CCTV industry. In the early nineties, his first company (Primavision) developed and brought to market the first software only PC-based digital recording and remote transmission CCTV system.

After graduating from Kingston University with a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, John started work as a design engineer (in 1979) at Albury Instruments, a medical device company. In 1983, he left to become an independent engineering consultant and worked on a variety of design projects before joining Cambridge Computer Graphics in 1987. Here, as technical director, he developed application specific integrated circuits (ASICS) and PC multimedia graphics cards.

In 1992, seeing the potential for PC based digital video recording and remote transmission in the CCTV market, John set up Primavision and over the next eight years built a highly successful and profitable business, which he subsequently sold, in November 2000, to Tenestra, an Internet company. During 2001, as technical director of the Tenestra subsidiary, John managed the handover process and the new product development programme.

In 2002, following the decision by Tenestra's backers to pull out of the Internet business, John re-acquired Primavision's key assets and intellectual property and formed Verdant Technologies.

John is a Chartered Electrical Engineer and full member of the IET. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Kingston University in 1977 and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Open University in 1995.
